Riverbend Industries Inc. (“RBI”) is a private family-owned portfolio holding company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The portfolio is primarily comprised of several small, independently operated, previously family-run businesses in the light manufacturing and distribution sectors. The portfolio is a long-term holder of its investments and plans to grow both organically and through acquisitions into the foreseeable future.

Position Summary:
The Machinist will be responsible for the daily operation of a variety of different non-CNC machinery including but not limited to drill presses, stamp presses, sanders and grinders, saws, and shears This position will be required to read work orders and basic blueprints to understand production requirements for typically high-volume repetitive parts.

The Machinist will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • Produce 3D models and detail drawings to the specifications of the Tool & Die Makers.
  • Document all necessary aspects of the construction and maintenance of dies which includes Shaping, Die Crashes, Die rebuilds/ modifications.
  • Obtain quotes for outside work to be performed during the construction of dies and replacement details.
  • Attend meetings with other departments to coordinate new projects or update other departments with the status of active projects.
  • Place orders for Tool & Die shop supplies.
  • Track inventory of all tools and consumables.
  • Track lead times for outside work and material orders to ensure smooth workflow through the shop
  • Pick Up and Drop off material and equipment for outside work and services to various vendors and suppliers.
  • Assist the Tool & Die Makers with tooling change overs and machining details.
  • Organize filing system while converting paper documents into digital.
  • Plans the fabrication, assembly, layout, and repair of complex dies, progressive, blank, form and drawn, from verbal or written instructions
  • Must be able to Preform Tonnage, Spring, Stripping, and bending pressure calculations for the design or modifications of the dies.
  • Verify dimensions of finished parts to ensure they conform to specifications using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers and micrometers
  • Utilize hand and machine tools to assemble parts of tools and dies and to repair and modify gauges, jigs and dies.
  • Design Dies, custom equipment, templates and jigs to be used as work aids for convenient fabrication of products and parts
  • Interface with external and internal customers, handle supplier and customer concerns, and work with team members to solve problems during the production process
  • File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly
  • Select the appropriate metals and materials to be used based on properties, ensuring they meet project specifications
  • Able to operate basic tool room machines and equipment such as manual mills, lathes, surface grinders and drill presses.
  • Welding experience a plus!
  • Must be able to operate and maintain a Creality 3D printer.
  • Must Have knowledge of Converting CAD files into Gcode using slicer software for creating 3D Prints.
  • Must be able to read and interpret sheet metal part prints, drawings of sheet metal stamping dies, die details, gages, and fixtures, drafting as well as CAD experience
  • Knowledge and ability to select proper materials in fabrication
  • Works with other personnel and departments for purposes of fabricating components for repairs and construction of new equipment
  • Preform and track Maintenance done on Turret tooling.
  • Track Work Order request forms and assign projects to Team members. 
  • Need to be capable of choosing proper heat-treating techniques.
  • Able to perform in and out of press change over and troubleshooting of die problems in press
  • Fabricates tooling and fixtures with economy in mind.
  • Repair and maintenance of tools, dies, fixtures and gages.
  • Able to work with verbal instructions and minimal supervision.
  • Typically suggest improvements to tooling, equipment, and designs.
  • Must be able to perform all work in accordance with all applicable safety procedures.
  • Able to work Overtime based on production requirements.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty efficiently, safely and in an acceptable manner
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or completion of Tool & Die Apprenticeship, Trade School or five years related experience and/or training
  • Five years or more in manual machining experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design schematics
  • Extensive experience with metalworking tools including drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes
  • Experience with quality control analysis
  • Proficient in SolidWorks 3D modeling and 3d Printing
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; follow written and/or verbal orders; read, write, speak, and comprehend English
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, shop math, basic geometry, and trigonometry a must.
  • Capacity to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving variable in standardized situations; understand fundamental flow of shop material and its problems or material handling
