Position Summary:  

Fabrication Supervisor supervises and coordinates the work of employees in both the CNC Machining and Press areas. The Fabrication Supervisor supervises the fabrication of new evaporative cooling systems for both residential and commercial applications in accordance with all federal, state, and local safety, fire, and environmental codes.  The Fabrication Supervisor prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work product across all processes. Fabrication Supervisor ensures operations and employees follow proper policies and procedures. As such, we expect this person to be able to lead by example, work independently, drive continuous improvements, and ensure good work attitudes, atmosphere, and communication to maximize productivity. The Fabrication Supervisor will be required to transmit directions and work instructions to a group of workers engaged in closely related operations. Ensuring a safe and efficient workplace is always maintained. 

 Requirements:

 The Fabrication Supervisor will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • Working knowledge of CNC Machining and Press Production processes. Has the skills necessary to solve production issues impacting the CNC and Press Machine areas
  • Know-how to productively operate and maintain a variety of CNC, Press Brake and Punch Press Machines
  • Giving immediate direction as to actual and immediate work, machine operations, work methods, shop or trade practice, machine or work set-ups, and layouts for demonstration purposes
  • Leads and supervises the team of employees in a technical, fast paced, deadline driven environment that emphasizes quality
  • Optimize the up-time and use of a collection of different CNCs, Press Brake and Punch Press Machines  
  • Assesses skills and knowledge, addressing gaps where applicable, of team members and allocates them to meet customer needs daily
  • Ensures the specific personnel, machines, tools, and equipment are properly utilized for work to be done
  • Partner with technical maintenance team to ensure equipment is periodically maintained and operating as designed
  • Training all CNC and Metal Fab Machine Operators and providing them adequate knowledge about the process
  • Manage capacity conflicts
  • Manage Labor issues
  • Conducts Associate performance reviews, identifies performance gaps and creates a development plan
  • Ensures the consistent use of safety devices and personal protective equipment (PPE), supervises departmental housekeeping and maintains constant alert for hazardous conditions and practices
  • Maintaining records and documents of daily production and posts KPI’s on information board
  • Preparing weekly, monthly, and yearly reports and presenting them before the production or manufacturing managers
  • Ensuring that Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are monitored, and targets achieved
  • Liaise and coordinate with support functions to progress issues concerning production planning and resource/skill allocation to ensure delivery of products to schedule within all relevant quality specifications
  • Through the utilization of lean manufacturing techniques, strive to exceed the Company targets in productivity, efficiency, and quality on a continuous basis
  • Support the implementation of engineering changes, production trials, model change and pilot build 
  • Report and act upon plant or machinery breakdowns to maintenance technicians
  • Ensure steel is being delivered and placed away properly on racks
  • Supervise Fabrication and process in slitting coils to sheets and oversee process is being followed accurately the the Press and Form department
  • Supervise hand steel delivered in sheets and coordinate process through fully automated punch press system (Muratec)
  • Ensure procedures are being followed over to press where steel is punches and formed
  • Identify and eliminate root cause using robust countermeasures. Sustain the corrective actions to eliminate repeat issues
  • Trains, supervises, motivates, and handles discipline issues for area of responsibility
  • Sets daily productivity goals, monitors production progress in Press area as well as both the industrial and residential weld areas
  • Works closely with supervision and management in other departments
  • Conducts/participates in daily communication meetings with both the departmental teams and management teams
  • Responsible for consistent shift operation according to established procedures and processes
  • Contribute in the improvement of working procedures by constantly looking for solutions to ensure the best productivity results and ensuring compliance with procedures, operating instructions and work instructions 
  • Expedites orders throughout the department to ensure customer orders are met in a timely manner while ensuring quality and safe working practices
  • Instilling a sense of urgency and desire to maximize output on the production floor wherever the opportunity arises, while monitoring productivity
  • Creative at configuring fixtures
  • Supports the compliance with, and the maintenance of, safety requirements in accordance with company policies and/or federal/state laws
  • Identifies, coaches, and develops team members through training/qualification process, performance reviews, coaching, support and delegation as appropriate for their development level
  • Insures employees are properly trained in their position and additional positions as applies
  • Establishes an environment that is conducive to collaboration and teamwork, promotes positive employee relations and takes steps to prevent or diffuse conflicts
  • Conduct incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure
  • May be required to complete machine set-ups
  • Must perform all work in accordance with all applicable safety procedures
  • Able to work Overtime based on production requirements
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • 2-year degree required or Technical Training with equivalent experience 
  • 5 years leadership experience in a manufacturing or fast paced work environment
  • A full understanding of the requirements of running a CNC, manual punch press and manual brake press machine Department, such as health and safety and quality requirements to include Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
  • Significant work experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably HVAC industry
  • Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing tools implementation required, Six Sigma Certification Preferred 
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Metallic structure & Carbon Fiber Composite
  • Implement process improvement through lean manufacturing activities including TPM, 5S, and Kaizen events
  • Organize and maintain employee training matrix and plan for future required employee trainings
  • Flexible, assertive, team player who is willing to help out wherever needed to achieve company goals

  • Possess familiarity with machines, work functions and/or operations to which assigned
  • Demonstrate leadership through development of Team Leaders in the area to help drive daily work and long-term improvements 
  • Proper knowledge of current trade practice, materials, and tooling as it affects work being performed
  • Able to understand and use proper methods of transmitting supervisions directions
  • Must have ability to lead by example
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; follow written and/or verbal orders; read, write, speak, and comprehend English
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to work as needed, particularly during high volume periods, to ensure that departmental objectives are accomplished
  • Capacity to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving variable in standardized situations; understand fundamental flow of shop material and its problems or material handling
  • Regularly lift and/or move objects 20-25 lbs.; occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 50 lbs. 
  • Able to withstand temperatures in a typical warehouse environment
