Position Summary:

The Metal Fab Machine Operator will have knowledge and experience operating several types of press brakes including hydraulic, mechanical and/or pneumatic. The Metal Fab Machine Operator will work with department leads and coordinators in obtaining the required die, required materials needed to set-up the machine, check the machine, inspect the parts, obtain inspection for first piece approval, and runs press based on instructions received. The Metal Fab Machine Operator will ensure the machine is properly and safely set up to bend, form, and straighten metal or other materials while certifying the machines are functioning properly and producing parts to the specified dimensions and tolerances.

Essential Job Functions:

The Metal Fab Machine Operator will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • Ability to configure the press brake machine by installing and aligning the appropriate tooling (punches and dies) based on job specifications
  • Ability to operate machinery to produce parts according to engineering drawings, blueprints, or work orders
  • Inspect the first piece and periodically heck subsequent pieces to ensure they meet quality standard and specifications
  • Perform routine maintenance on the machines including cleaning and lubricating parts and reporting any issues to maintenance personnel
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including job setup, run times, and part counts
  • Work with department leadership on diagnosing and resolving issues with machine operations, tooling, or material inconsistencies
  • Ability to set up, operation, and tending machines to saw, cut, punch, crimp, bend or straighten metal
  • Adjust machine parts as needed to ensure proper speed, pressure, temperature and amount of materials for quality production
  • Monitor and control machines on a daily basis to maintain daily and weekly production schedule
  • Complete quality checks and paperwork every day to maintain production and industry regulations and company standards
  • Make sure work environment remains safe, uncluttered, clean and well-maintained by performing maintenance and general janitorial duties throughout shift as time allows
  • Look over all work orders and instructions to see which ingredients, machines, parts, and materials are needed to complete orders to full customer satisfaction
  • Engage in continuing education training and seminars to remain up to date on the latest industry techniques, machines, safety regulations and equipment
  • Ability to use micrometers, squares, tape measure, and calipers
  • Proficient at blueprint reading and sheet metal layout
  • Able to form parts using die; must know difference between forming machines
  • Must perform all work in accordance with all applicable safety procedures

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty efficiently, safely and in an acceptable manner
  • Possess familiarity with machines, work functions and/or operations to which assigned
  • Sufficient degree of skill in assigned trade, craft, machines, and work operations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; follow written and/or verbal orders; read, write, speak, and comprehend English
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Capacity to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving variable in standardized situations; understand fundamental flow of shop material and its problems or material handling
  • Understand fundamentals of material flow through production floor
  • Regularly lift and/or move objects 10-25 lbs
  • Able to withstand temperatures in a typical warehouse environment
