Position Summary

The Shipping & Logistics Manager will work closely with department Managers/Supervisors and team members to coordinate outbound shipments, rigorously adhering to material handling protocols. This position involves managing the secure and efficient storage, handling, and transportation of products, supported by precise documentation of product movements. This leader is expected to set a high standard in leadership, foster a positive and collaborative work environment, and communicate effectively to drive productivity. Additionally, the Shipping & Logistics Manager will be responsible for providing clear instructions to team members on related tasks, ensuring a consistently safe and productive workplace 

The Shipping & Logistics Manager will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate shipments with Customer Service team to meet customer delivery timelines and reduce costs
  • Oversee warehouse operations to ensure proper storage, handling, and movement of goods within a manufacturing environment 
  • Collaborate with Planning and Inventory Control to implement inventory controls to maintain accurate stock records and minimize losses
  • Work with carriers, third-party logistics providers, and freight forwarders to negotiate rates and manage shipping schedules and pick-up requests
  • Develop and enforce logistics policies and procedures in alignment with safety regulations and industry standards. Ensure all outbound shipments comply with internal and external standards, including documentation, labeling, and inspection requirements
  • Evaluate and improve logistics processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs which includes analyzing data to optimize routes, improve space utilization, and streamline processes
  • Engage with customers in a respectful, courteous, and professional manner
  • Conduct research, confirm product details, and follow up on shipments to ensure accuracy and timely delivery
  • Ensure accurate completion and filing of all appropriate documentation
  • Contribute in the improvement of working procedures by constantly looking for solutions to ensure the best productivity results of her/his machinery group and ensuring compliance with procedures, operating instructions and work instructions 
  • Expedites orders throughout the plant to ensure customer orders are met in a timely manner while ensuring quality and safe working practices
  • Instilling a sense of urgency and desire to maximize output on the production floor wherever the opportunity arises, while monitoring productivity
  • Supports the compliance with, and the maintenance of, safety requirements in accordance with company policies and/or federal/state laws
  • Identifies, coaches, and develops team members through training, performance reviews, coaching, support and delegation as appropriate for their development level
  • Manage Shipping & Receiving team that includes responsibilities such as recruitment, performance evaluations, assignment of tasks, merit increases, promotions, reclassifications, and disciplinary actions, as well as managing complaint and grievance resolutions
  • Establishes an environment that is conducive to collaboration and teamwork, promotes positive employee relations and takes steps to prevent or diffuse conflicts
  • Conduct incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure
  • Operates forklift or squeeze lift to accomplish shipping/receiving duties
  • Must perform all work in accordance with all applicable safety procedures
  • Able to work Overtime based on production requirements
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 Required Skills and Abilities

  •   High school diploma, general education degree (GED) acceptable; 2-year degree or technical training preferred
  • 3-5 years leadership experience in a logistic, shipping and/or manufacturing 
  • Proficiency with logistics software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with compliance regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices
  • Experience setting up LTL shipments and creating bills of lading
  • Knowledge of warehouse and distribution to include Receiving, Inventory Control, and Shipping processes
  • Significant work experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably HVAC industry 
  • Knowledge and understanding of lean techniques may be advantageous 
  • Proven track record within manufacturing management
  • Flexible, assertive, team player who is willing to help wherever needed to achieve company goals
  • Possess familiarity with machines, work functions and/or operations to which assigned
  • Aptitude to calculate estimated costs associated with the shipping/delivery functions
  • Ability to properly transmit information and instruction to others
  • Must have ability to lead by example
  • Ability to work as needed, particularly during high volume periods, to ensure that departmental objectives are accomplished
  • Capacity to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving variable in standardized situations; understand fundamental flow of shop material and its problems or material handling
  • Regularly lift and/or move objects 20-25 lbs.; occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs.
  • Able to withstand temperatures in a typical warehouse environment
